US Retail Forex: Market Share & Concentration

The CFTC publishes, every month, the audited financial data of every registered FCM/RFED — including the Total Retail Forex Obligation: what each firm owes its retail forex customers. That column is the official measure of the US retail forex market. This page computes what the regulator does not publish: market share per firm and the concentration index (HHI).

Methodology

Source: CFTC Financial Data for FCMs, official monthly report, "as of" 2026-05-31, collected 2026-07-18. Share = firm obligation ÷ sum of all retail forex obligations. HHI = sum of squared percentage shares (0–10,000); 2,500+ is the DOJ/FTC "highly concentrated" threshold. Firm identities follow a declared rename/M&A map (tastyfx ex-IG US; StoneX/FOREX.com ex-GAIN; Schwab ex-thinkorswim). Monthly snapshots are versioned; a change in the CFTC file schema freezes the page on the last valid month (fail-closed) rather than publishing partial data.
